PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Missions Ministry of Shelby Christian Church supports the overall purpose of the church in three ways...
Reaching the Lost
Our focus is to aid in the planting of new churches throughout the world by partnering with native evangelists. Our goal is to support, mentor, and encourage these local evangelists so that they can become self sustaining, indigenous churches.
Equipping the Saved
Our focus is to develop and disciple Christian leadership through new churches and through the support of Christian education in Christian colleges.
Impacting the World
Out focus is to extend the love of God "to all the world" through missions of mercy that directly improve the living conditions for people throughout the world.

International Missions of Shelby Christian Church

 Dominican Republic
Cuerpo de Cristo, La Romana, Punta Cana Translated "the body of Christ", this ministry strives to be just that. Shelby Christian Church partners with this ministry through short-term trips. In the most recent trip, our team held Vacation Bible Schools for children and adults, assisted with an eye clinic, and participated in a Family Fair that drew over 400 people to the local church!

 Guatemala
Prince of Peace Orphanage for Girls, San Cristobal
Prince of Peace Ministries provides for the whole development (physical, spiritual, emotional, educational, and vocational) of orphaned, abandoned and abused Guatemalan girls in a Christian home environment so that they can serve the Lord and their own nation as godly women of good character.

Brittany & Chad Meers, Christian Academy of Guatemala, San Cristobal
Brittany is currently teaching 1st Grade at this English speaking school for missionary's children. Her brother, Chad, teaches PE at the school and also works as a translator for American short-term groups and helps to build houses for those who otherwise wouldn't have them. Brittany and Chad grew up here at Shelby Christian!

 India
Rana & Simie Samuel, Passion Ministries
Rana's passion is bringing the hope of the Gospel to India. Rana uses his musical gifts to help plant churches, and uses technical camps (in which motorcycles, scooters and mopeds are repaired) as a tool for evangelism. Simie, a nurse, works through medical camps in the remote villages, and has a passion for the poor and disowned children of India.

 Kenya
In partnership with Adventure Christian Church in Louisville and Christian Mission Aid (CMA), a short-term group from Shelby Christian will build 'Units of Hope' for AIDS widows and orphans in the remote villages outside of Nairobi in April of 2010.

 Mexico
Jimmy & Sarah Hatter, CrossRoads Missions, Piedas Negras
Jimmy grew up at Shelby Christian and is now in his fourth year of ministry in Mexico. In addition to supporting the Hatter's financially, SCC has sent several teams of students and adults to partner with their ministry.

 New Zealand

 Poland
PROeM Ministries - The past two summers, Shelby Christian has sent short-term groups to work with PROeM to put on a Christian basketball camp in Zakosciele and work with their church plant in nearby Tomascow. PROeM is currently in the process of planting another church in the city of Lodz.

Zbyszek Tarkowski, Christian Fellowship Pulawska, Warsaw Zbyszek and his wife minister at this growing church which was once the largest evangelical church in Poland. Now, the 'daughter' church that Christian Fellowship Pulawska began in another part of the city is even larger!

 Puerto Rico
Inglesia Cristiana de Aguadilla, Santos Torres, local minister Puerto Rico Mission - which provides Ministry training for Puerto Rican nationals. In addition, Shelby Christian sends short-term teams to assist in the ministry to the poor in Puerto Rico.

 Romania
Medical Missions with Mission Connect--Doctors, nurses, and others from Shelby Christian go to various parts of Romania once or twice each year to provide free medical clinics, often treating more than 500 patients in one week!

Romanian American Fellowship (RAF)
Shelby Christian has partnered with Mission Connect and RAF to start multiple new churches in Romania which serve as the bases for the short-term medical missions, connecting the physical and spiritual well-being of Romanian people. RAF focuses on encouraging the evangelists at these new churches. |
 Russia
Andrea Luttrell - New Missions Systems International, Moscow
Andrea is a relative of several Shelby Christian members and works as a teacher in Russia as a means to share the Gospel and bring people to a saving knowledge of God's love through Christ. Andrea is a year and a half into a three-year commitment.

 Ukraine
Mulberry International, Simferopol
Mulberry focuses on nurturing abandoned and neglected children in Ukraine - helping to provide for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
Project Sasha welcomes all who come for a hot meal, fresh clothes and counseling. The goal is to get the children off of the streets, not to make street life easier. Through Project Compassion, abandoned babies are held daily and basic needs like nourishing food, clean clothing, medicine and a gentle touch are provided. The Foster parents of Dyetski Dom provide a safe home with a Christian environment for as many as eleven children.

 Zimbabwe
Shepherd International - Shelby Christian has long supported missionaries Dan and Sharon Pruitt, who have been in Africa for many years teaching the gospel, building churches, and opening medical clinics. Sadly, Dan became sick and passed away in the fall of 2009. Please pray for this family, and the continued work in Zimbabwe.

Serenity Center
Shelby Christian Church channels much of her outreach to the community through the ministry of the Serenity Center. From clothes and food pantries to addiction and relationship counseling, the Serenity Center touches hundreds in our community every month.
