Greetings!

Can you believe that it is summer time?  The year is almost halfway gone and it seems it was just Christmas.   I've got to take this chance to say a special word of thanks to Ray Bruner and his disciples in first service that followed his leadership to the front of the church.  It was the best first service in years for me.  You can't believe what a difference it made to me being able to see faces while precahing.  I felt so much more connected!  So thanks to Ray who led the charge and to all who followed.  I sure hope that you are down there next week!!!
Memorial Day of Service
IMPACT CREW
MDS Group
We had a great groupd of workers show up for our latest IMPACT event, our Memorial Day of Service.  We were able to do a lot of spring yard work at four of our local schools.  We had groups at Shelby County High, Heritage Elementary, Painted Stone Elementary and Cropper, Alternative Schools.

We were scheduled to also work at Southside Elementary, but when we went to check on the mulch someone had already put it out.  Maybe this service things is catching.   Several pictures are included but many more will be appearing on the website and in service in a couple of weeks.

Camp Calvary - 50 Years of Changing Lives
Camp Calvary Tucked away in the center of Kentucky are several hundred acres of land that have impacted thousands of young lives for eternity.  Camp Calvary is celebrating fifty years of ministry.  Camp season starts this week and we have plenty of information in the youth ministry offices and office lobby for you to use in regitering your child for a week that could change their life.  SCC provides scholarships for any of our young people who need assistance.  There is a simple scholarship form available in the office lobby or from the youth staff.  Camp Calvary also has a very helpful website at www.campcalvaryky.com that includes schedules, directions and other valuable insights.
There is also a special fundraising day for the camp at the Lexington Legends game on Saturday night June 26th.  A significant amount of the ticket price goes to the camp.
We also need everyone to be praying for our great Camp Manager Alan Cooper who is battling cancer.  He and his wife Vickie and their entire family have dedicated their lives to this camp.  Keep them in your prayers.
John Wooden - Great Coach - Better Man
John Wooden
As a child I remember watching John Wooden lead UCLA to records in college basketball that will live forever. All I knew was that he was the best basketball coach ever. Later in life I found out about the person John Wooden. He was a great coach, but it is the person John Wooden that will be remembered as the legend.
I had a great trip to California a few years ago to spend some time with Coach Wooden's pastor and some other ministers. Unfortunately there was a personal emergency of someone close that took Coach Wooden out of town at the last minute and prevented him from attending the dinner he was supposed to come to with eight preachers to talk about life. Instead he sent autographed books, that just became more of a treasure. I read one of them on the flight home. When we went to church at Shepherd of the Hills on Sunday, there he was, where he was every week he was in town. I was fascinated listening to Dudley tell stories of the legend. One story I remember was about Dudley walking into a Sunday night youth service full of hundreds of teens and modern worship music and seeing Coach Wooden on the back row. Dudley ask him why he was there and Coach said that he was out of town that morning and he just needed to be in worship. Oh by the way, he was 91 at the time! WOW! I sure wish that I had gotten to meet him.
I hope you have a great week and I look forward to seeing you Sunday as we continue to go beyond to a place where God is taking us.  This we have a special choir as musical guests and we will be discussing going Beyond Racial Zones.
